5 steps to change the cord in a curtain track
Sometimes it's necessary to change the cord in your curtain track. This may be because it’s worn away or because you want to install a better cord when changing your curtains. It may even be because you want to personalise the cord and add an extra decorative touch to your home. The good news is that you can do this yourself in just a few short steps. What's more, this way you’ll learn how the track system works and become self-sufficient. There’s no need to change the whole part, just the cord that needs replacing. Read on to find out how.
Parts of a track
So that you understand the following steps, it’s important to get to know the parts that make up the track, such as the:
Track or profile. This part supports all the other parts. It is usually white so that it blends into the ceiling. It can also be painted.
Cord. This is the part that we want to change. At CINPASA, we offer a range of cords for tracks and roller blinds that are much more resistant and durable than standard ones. They are made from high-tenacity polyester and are rounded, giving you better grip. You may need to change the cord in a track for three different reasons, but the number one reason is because you need one that is stronger as your curtain is too heavy. In addition, cords may feature a counterweight to help with this issue and provide an extra touch of decoration.
Rawl plugs and screws. These help attach it to the ceiling.
Supports, hooks and forks. These are attached to the track and are used to hang the curtain. They are what move when you pull on the cord.
Steps for changing the cord in a curtain track
Remember that there are different types of tracks and depending on the curtains that you use with them, you will need one with either more or less parts. There are extendable tracks, tracks with one channel, tracks for Japanese screens and tracks for vertical panels. Despite a few subtle differences, the steps to follow for changing the cord is mostly the same. Here is a generalised five-step process for changing the cord.
1. Open the profile and remove the rawl plugs, screws and moveable supports with the help of a screwdriver.
2. Unravel the cord and remove it from the pulley on the opposite side from where it hangs.
3. Install the new cord where the old one was by passing it through the correct pulley and tying the ends. The cord must be as wide as the track and as high as the blinds.
4. Put the moveable supports and the hooks back onto the track.
5. Check that it works correctly by opening and closing the curtain.
We know that it's hard to follow these instructions without photos, so here’s a video that shows you all the parts of the rail so that you can do it yourself.
