How to change the belt in your shutters | CINPASA will help you

Have you ever been abroad? One of the main differences between our country and the rest of the world is that we have shutters on our windows. I know it’s something completely normal for you, but in reality, it's a part of the window that is quintessentially Spanish and we tend to miss it when we’re in another country.

To keep our shutters in perfect conditions and to make sure they keep out the light and noise, it's vital to carry out some maintenance every now and again. One question you may have, for example, is how do you change the belt in your shutters?

How to change the belt in your shutters in two easy steps

1. Remove the shaft from the box. To gain access to the shutters, first you need to unscrew the cover or, if it’s a clip-on one, use a lever to pry it off. Make sure that the shutters are all the way down before opening it as you’ll have a nasty surprise when you change the belt. If you need to replace any slats which are deteriorated or damaged, at this point you'll have to remove the shutters from the box.

Next, remove the straps which hold the slats to the shaft. If your window is very old, they may be attached with a ribbon of tape or with screws. Cut the tape on the first slat or unscrew it.

2. Remove the old belt before installing the new one. First change the ferrule, which must be the same size as the old one. Then remove the pulley and the belt housing. Pull the belt, taking care that it doesn't wind back up, until you reach the end of the reel.

And finally, put the new belt in its place. Before finishing, remember to check that the belt and the mechanism work correctly. Try open and closing the shutters several times.

How to choose the right belt for your shutters

Now that you know how to change the belt in your shutters, it’s time to learn how to recognise top quality. At CINPASA, we are experts in belts and our catalogue features the most resistant. In fact, resistance is the number one quality to look for in a shutter belt. Think that it doesn’t just need to be able to support the weight of the shutters, but also operate them too. That’s why it needs to be highly resistant to friction.

In terms of design and aesthetics, the classic shutter belt is ecru in colour and has two lines of colour on the sides. But in reality, many modern shutters have a belt that is completely white.

Size is another characteristic that needs to be taken into consideration. Given that there are belts with different widths and thicknesses, when it’s time to replace it, you need to make sure it has the same dimensions. Regardless, remember that you can get in touch with us for any help that you need. Our team of experts will love to give you advise when choosing a belt for your shutters.

And now that you know all the basics for changing the belt in your shutters, you can enjoy the process.
